Summary[edit]

Description
English: "Billion year beach" Rounded pebbles washed down a river once. They were mixed in with the Torridonian sandstone and formed a conglomerate. The Torridonian rocks are very old - how old were the quartz stones that were incorporated into them? And from where did they originate? I have read that once the east of North America (Highland Scotland was a bit of North America left behind when the Atlantic opened) lay beside the west of South America and that Scotland and Newfoundland were adjacent to Patagonia. These pebbles may have travelled far before being exposed on a hillside an ocean away from their home continent.
