Displaying “popular products” in WooCommerce can be a great opportunity to upsell or cross-sell products to customers. It helps boost sales and can help you improve the customer experience and product visibility on your WooCommerce site.

While WooCommerce by default offers some functionality to display popular products using shortcodes, you can use plugins to take this to the next level.

In this article, we’ll show you three methods to display popular products on your WooCommerce store and demonstrate how you can level up your popular product display with the help of WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate and WooCommerce Order Bump.

Let’s take a closer look at some of the major advantages of displaying popular products on your WooCommerce store:

  • Boost sales and average order value (AOV). If you’re advertising a list of popular products clearly on your shop’s product pages, the main shop page, or the checkout pages, it creates more opportunities for upselling or cross-selling. As a result, it helps increase sales and encourages shoppers to spend more which ultimately boosts the average order value.
  • Improve customer experience. Displaying best-selling products to your customers as recommendations can streamline the shopping experience on your online store. It helps your customers quickly find what they’re looking for.
  • Showcase social proof. By displaying products that are popular with your existing customers, you can increase customer trust by demonstrating the high quality of the products that you stock at your online store.
  • Increase product visibility. Products that you list as “popular” don’t necessarily have to actually be selling well. You can use a “popular products” list as a way of increasing visibility for your underperforming or new product lines in order to help give them a boost.

You can use a “popular products” list as a way of increasing visibility for your underperforming products or new product lines to help give them a boost.

Here, we’ll show you the best way to identify which products to show as “popular products” on your WooCommerce store. Then we’ll look at different ways you can display them on your online store for maximum impact.

One of the easiest ways to identify which products on your WooCommerce site should be selected as the “popular products” is to analyze which products are selling the best. Fortunately, WooCommerce by default has built-in functionality that lets you do this.

To get started, navigate to WooCommerce → Reports and click on the Sales by product link under the Orders tab.

Find popular products in WooCommerce

Here you can see how well individual products on your WooCommerce site are performing. The Product search tab lets you select specific products from your online store to see how well they are selling. You can also check which products from your WooCommerce site are selling the best using the Top sellers tab.

If you offer free products on your WooCommerce site, you can view which ones are the most popular by checking the Top freebies tab. Additionally, you can also see which products are earning your store the most revenue using the Top earners page.

You can also adjust the period that you want to check the product sales data for. For example, you can only view the product’s performance for the last 7 days, the current month or the previous one, the current year, or define a custom time range yourself.

When selecting popular products from your WooCommerce site, it’s important to monitor and update your list of popular products regularly. This ensures that your product recommendations remain relevant to your audience.

It’s also important to keep up with the ongoing industry trends and seasonal demands to better identify which products are likely to become popular items on your online store. Remember that you don’t necessarily need to display your best-selling products as “popular products” on your WooCommerce site. Instead, it’s better to display underperforming products or new product lines to give their sales a boost.

One of the easiest ways to display a list of popular products on your WooCommerce site is by using shortcodes, and here are the benefits of using them:

  • Flexible placement. Shortcodes can be used anywhere on your WooCommerce site to display popular products. You can even include them in the sidebar by using WooCommerce’s built-in shortcodes widget.
  • Straightforward setup. You don’t have to install any third-party services to display popular products on the front-end. You can use built-in WooCommerce shortcodes even if you don’t have any coding knowledge for displaying popular products.
  • Fully customizable. You can use different shortcodes to display different product lists on different pages of your store, creating a more tailored experience for your customers.

To start displaying your popular products using shortcodes, you will first need to identify the shortcode you want to use. Here are two of the most commonly used shortcodes:

[products limit="3" columns="3" skus="xxx, yyy, zzz"]

This shortcode lets you adjust the number of products you want to display and how many columns you want to show them in.

Popular products shortcode

Replace “xxx, yyy, zzz” with product SKUs and add them to the shortcode to display specific products from your WooCommerce site.

Popular products shortcode preview
[products orderby="popularity" limit="5"]

You can also use this shortcode to display your store’s top five most popular products by sales.

Products orderby shortcode in WooCommerce

You can adjust the limit and add a “column” parameter similar to the other shortcode we created earlier.

Popular products shortcode preview

Now with a better understanding of the shortcode you want to use to showcase popular products, we can start adding the shortcode to any page, post, or widget.

To add a shortcode to any product page, simply use the shortcode in the product’s description at the back-end of your site.

Product short description

You can also display a custom call to action (CTA) message to capture the customer’s attention.

Short description product page

Additionally, you can add the WooCommerce popular products display shortcode to a widget. For this, navigate to Appearance → Widgets and add a new shortcode widget to any part of your WooCommerce site.

Widget shortcode

Paste the shortcode in the text editor and click on the Update button to continue.

WooCommerce popular products in sidebar

This will let you display popular products as widgets anywhere on your WooCommerce site.

Limitations of using shortcodes

While displaying popular products using shortcodes works, there are some potential limitations to using these on your online store:

  • Limited visual display options. While shortcodes work great for displaying popular products, they don’t offer a lot of customization options in terms of how they appear on the front-end.
  • Manual process. Another major disadvantage to using WooCommerce shortcodes is that you have to manually add them to each page of your site. For instance, If you want to add popular products to many different pages, you’ll need to add the shortcode manually each time. This can be time-consuming, especially if you have a large product catalog.

However, the good news is that you can overcome both of these limitations with the help of dedicated plugins that we’ll cover in the following sections.

One of the alternative ways to displaying popular products on your WooCommerce site is by using the WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin, which lets you create fully customizable product tables.

WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate

The intuitive plugin helps store owners overcome the display issues of using shortcodes by giving you more flexibility over how you display your store’s popular products.

Let’s talk about some of the main features of the WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin that make it the perfect option for displaying popular products in WooCommerce:

  • Sortable and filterable product tables. The robust plugin makes it possible to display a wider range of popular products on your online store. The built-in search bars and filters make it easier for customers to find exactly what they’re looking for.
  • Bulk ordering capabilities. You can also include “add all to cart” buttons on product tables created with the plugin. This way, customers can add multiple products to the cart in a single click, making upselling and cross-selling easier than ever.
  • Customizable display options. Since product tables are fully customizable, you can choose which product data you want to display and configure the exact products you want to show in the “popular products” product table.

How to set up a popular products table

The WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin is also very easy to set up on your WooCommerce site, even if you’re not tech-savvy. To get started, get the plugin and install it on your WooCommerce site.

Next, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Product Table Ultimate and click on the Licence link from the top.

Enter the license key given to you at the time of purchase and click on the Activate button to continue.

Now that the plugin is installed and activated on your WooCommerce site, it’s time to start configuring your product tables. For this, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Product Table Ultimate and click on the General link from the top.

WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate settings

You can specify which columns to show on the product table by default using the Columns field. The Product Source field lets you specify which products you want to display in the product table. You can also choose how variable products appear in product tables using the Variations Display dropdown field.

Additionally, you can select Yes for both the Enable add selected button and Enable add all button dropdown fields. This will display checkboxes next to each product row and let shoppers add multiple products to their cart at once in one click. Once you’re ready, make sure to click on the Save changes button to continue.

Now there are two ways you can display the product table anywhere on your WooCommerce site:

With a shortcode

One of the most simple ways to display a product table anywhere is by using the [product_table_ultimate] shortcode. You can add this shortcode to any page, post, or widget.

Product table shortcode

While the shortcode will display the product table you configured using the plugin’s settings, you can also fine-tune the table using shortcode parameters.

Popular products in a category

Using the block editor

You can add the Product Table Ultimate block to any page or post on your WooCommerce site to display product tables.

Product table block Gutenberg

By default, the table will be displayed according to your table settings but you can override these by configuring the block settings.

Another method for displaying popular products on your online store is with the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin, which allows you to set up modal pop-ups with recommended products at key points in the shopping journey.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin offers a one-off solution for displaying popular products in a more visually-appealing way and also makes it easy to recommend popular products to your single product pages, cart page, and checkout page in bulk. This means you can overcome the laborious setup issues of the default WooCommerce shortcode method.

Let’s discuss the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin’s main features that make it an ideal option for store owners looking to display popular products better:

  • Flexible layout options. The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin offers multiple layout options for displaying a modal pop-up with your shop’s popular products. This way, you can display your popular products in a more visually appealing way on the front-end to encourage upsells and cross-sells.
  • Custom discounts. You can also create discounts for popular products displayed in your order bump. Discounts not only help your customers feel more valued but encourage them to add more products to their cart before checking out.
  • Apply order bumps in bulk. Using the plugin you can create order bumps that display for all products in your catalog, specific products, or products that share a specific category or attribute.

This gives you more control over which products are displayed as popular products on your online store.

How to set up a modal pop-up with recommended popular products

Setting up order bumps on your WooCommerce site using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin is straightforward.

Once you install the plugin, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump and click on the Licence link from the top.

Enter the license key given to you at the time of purchase and click on the Activate button to continue.

Now that the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin is installed and activated on your WooCommerce site, navigate to WooCommerce → Order Bumps and click on the Add New button to get started.

Setting up the order bump

After giving your order bump a title, you can choose which products will trigger the popular products order bump display using the Applies to dropdown menu.

Applies to dropdown menu

For instance, if shoppers add any products from the “Clothing” product category, the most popular products from that specific category will be displayed in a modal popup. You can also specify which products to exclude from triggering the modal popup display such as out-of-stock products.

Using the Bump Content metabox, add a Heading that shoppers will see on the front-end and specify the “popular products” in the Bump Products field.

Bump content

While you can add custom products, you can also use the upsells or cross-sells products that are attached to the products in the customers’ cart. The Layout dropdown field lets you choose the layout of the modal popup and how the bump products appear in them.

In addition to this, you can also select the Display Cart Button and Display Checkbox Button checkboxes to display the cart button and checkboxes. This lets shoppers add multiple products to their cart at once.

Discounts

The Discounts section lets you add either a fixed or percentage-based discount to your order bumps. This is great for encouraging shoppers to make purchases and helps increase the average order value on your online store.

Once you’re ready, make sure to click on the Publish button to continue.

To choose where the popular products display will pop up on the front-end of your WooCommerce site, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump.

Bump location

Using the Bump Location dropdown field, you can display the order bump on either the single product pages, the cart page, or the checkout page. You can also choose what happens next after the customer adds products to their cart using the order bump.

Once you’re ready, make sure to click on the Save changes button to continue.

The Checkbox layout lets customers quickly select more products after they add the primary product they were interested in to their cart.

Checkbox layout

The Product layout lets you display additional quantity selectors and show popular products in a more visually-appealing way.

Product layout

Displaying popular products or listing your top-selling products on your WooCommerce site is a great way to boost sales, increase average order value, enhance product visibility and user experience, and show social proof to customers to increase customer trust.

While you can use WooCommerce default shortcodes to display popular products anywhere on your WooCommerce site, you are limited with design options and it requires a lot of manual labor, especially if you have a large product catalog. This is why it’s best to use dedicated plugins like WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate and WooCommerce Order Bump to improve this functionality.

The WooCommerce “You may also like” section is one of the primary ways to offer product upsells and cross-sells on your online store using the platform’s default functionality.

While WooCommerce’s default functionality for displaying product recommendations is a good starting point, it has its limitations. For you to get the most out of this feature, you’ll need a supplementary plugin.

In this post, we’ll show you how to set up the “You may also like” product recommendations section in WooCommerce and then demonstrate how you can get more out of your product upsells and cross-sells with the help of the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

Introduction to product recommendations in WooCommerce

The default product recommendation feature in WooCommerce works by offering your customers similar or related products when they visit a product page or add products to their shopping cart. This is a great way to boost sales and increase the average order value of your online store.

In a nutshell, the role of the “You may also like” section in WooCommerce is to showcase recommended products, upsells, and cross-sells to shoppers, and encourage them to add more products to their carts.

Different types of product recommendations

There are three main types of product recommendations available by default in WooCommerce:

Upsells

An upsell is when customers are offered an upgrade to the product they are already interested in.

For instance, if a customer is interested in purchasing a normal hoodie, you can show them a more premium hoodie with a logo that costs more as an upgrade option.

An upsell can also be a more advanced model of the same product or an add-on upgrade to the product itself.

Cross-sells

Cross-sells are supplementary products that you can offer to shoppers based on the product they’re already interested in. They’re products that go along well with the primary product your customer wants to purchase.

For example, customers who are interested in purchasing dress shoes might be inclined to add a shoe cream or a polishing brush to their order. Similarly, for a laptop product, you can offer a laptop bag as a cross-sell product.

Related products can be upsells or cross-sells but are not necessarily either. Sometimes these products might even be down-sells or lower-priced products than the primary product the buyer is interested in.

For example, you can show customers similar products or products that share the same category or tags as the ones they’re viewing.

Benefits of product recommendations

Let’s talk about some of the major benefits of offering product recommendations on your WooCommerce site:

  • Increased average order value. Recommended products work wonders when it comes to encouraging your customers to spend more money either on more expensive product options, add-ons, or supplementary products.
  • Improved customer experience. Since product recommendations are displayed based on the product your customer is already interested in, it helps them find the products they are looking for more easily without having to scroll through your entire product catalog.
  • Easier product discovery. You can improve product visibility on your WooCommerce site by showing product recommendations, particularly for newer or underperforming product lines. You can give such products a boost by showcasing them on the product pages of your most popular lines.

Setting up “You may also like” recommendations in WooCommerce

WooCommerce will show one type of product recommendation – related products – by default. These appear on your product pages, and the specific products shown are taken from the same category as the primary product.

The problem with this is that WooCommerce automatically selects the related products, so you don’t have any control over which products are recommended to your shoppers. If you want to highlight specific products, such as underperforming ones as we mentioned above, you can’t do this. Additionally, there may be the risk that the recommended product is not an exact match to the product it’s being paired with.

Nonetheless, it’s important that you know how to step up “You may also like” recommendations as a WooCommerce store owner, so let’s show you how to do this.

To get started, navigate to Products → All Products from the WordPress admin panel and select the product you want to set up “You may also like” recommendations for.

Hoodie with Logo upsells

Click on the Linked Products tab under the Product data metabox to view the Upsells and Cross-sells fields. Click on the Update button once you’re done.

You may also like section

The products you add to the Upsells field will appear on the single product page under the “You may also like…” heading.

Cross-sells

Products added to the Cross-sells field will appear on the WooCommerce cart page under the “You may be interested in” heading if customers have the primary product in their shopping cart.

Using plugins to enhance WooCommerce product recommendations

We’ve seen how to set up product recommendations manually in your store, so now let’s look at how you can enhance this functionality with plugins, and why it’s so important to do so.

We’ve already looked at one major limitation with product recommendations in WooCommerce, which is that you can’t select which specific products to recommend on product pages. Additionally, you can’t prioritize specific products to be displayed in the “You may also like” section, by which we mean that there’s no way for you to select the frequency at which certain products are recommended. It’s all automated and randomized, based on which products are from the same category.

Another limitation is that you have to navigate to each product’s edit page to set up product recommendations. This makes it a very time-consuming process, especially if you have a large product catalog.

To maximize the impact of your “You may also like” recommendations, you’ll want to use a plugin like WooCommerce Order Bump. It’s the perfect option for customizing and displaying the “You may also like” recommendations on your WooCommerce site. You can display any product from your entire store’s catalog in an automatic modal pop-up to encourage upsells and cross-sells.

The modal pop-up with product recommendations can be configured to appear on your single product pages, cart pages, or checkout page. This gives store owners more chances to encourage customers to add more items to their cart before checking out and helps boost the average order value.

Additionally, the automatic modal popup is fully customizable which means you can create a layout that resonates well with your brand’s unique aesthetics. On top of encouraging more sales, you also improve the customer experience of your online store by displaying relevant product recommendations in strategic locations.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin also comes pre-built with discount functionality. This way, you can offer discounts on recommended products to encourage more shoppers to add them to their cart and shift underperforming products on your WooCommerce site.

Getting started with WooCommerce Order Bump

Here, we’ll show you how you can get started with WooCommerce Order Bump and use the plugin to set up “You may also like” recommendations on your online store.

For this, you’ll need the WooCommerce plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site along with some products. You’ll also need the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to set up the modal pop-up with product recommendations.

Step #1: Download and install the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin

Once you get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin, navigate to Plugins → Add New and upload the plugin’s ZIP file.

Click on the Install Now button and then Activate this plugin to continue. Once the plugin is installed and activated, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump and click on the Licence link from the top.

Enter the license key given to you at the time of purchase and click on the Activate this license button to continue.

Step #2: Create a new order bump

Now that the WooCommerce Order Bump is fully integrated with your WooCommerce site, we can start creating an order bump for “You may also like” product recommendations. For this, navigate to WooCommerce → Order Bumps and then click on the Add New button.

Select products

After giving your order bump a title like “You may also like”, select the primary product you want to display product recommendations for using the Bump Applies To metabox.

Bump applies to settings

The Applies to dropdown menu lets you specify whether you want to display the modal popup for all products, specific categories, specific attributes, or specific products on your WooCommerce site. You can even choose to exclude specific products from the product recommendation order bump using the Excluded Product field. The Roles field lets you specify user roles that will see the order bump on the front-end of your WooCommerce site.

Bump content

Once you’ve chosen the primary products that will trigger the “You may also like” product recommendations popup, it’s time to start selecting the products you want to promote or showcase in the order bump using the Bump Content metabox

Set headings and choose a layout

The Heading field lets you display a custom message or a call to action (CTA) that may encourage shoppers to add more products to their cart before checking out.

Headings and CTA

You can add the products that will appear on the order bump using the Bump Products field. In addition to this, you can also select the Use Upsell Products or the Use Cross Sell Products checkboxes if you want to use the upsell or cross-sell products attached to products in the customer’s cart.

The plugin also lets you choose a layout for how promotional products will be displayed in the order bump using the Layout dropdown field. The Product option lets you showcase product images along with product price and title while the Checkbox option will showcase select boxes with product titles and prices. You can also choose whether to display a quantity field, a cart button, as well as a checkout button directly on the order bump itself. This can help add to the overall user experience on your online store and makes it easier for shoppers to take quick action.

Apply discounts (optional)

Lastly, the Discounts metabox lets you add a pricing discount promotion to the products that appear in the order bump.

Apply discount

Offering fixed or percentage-based discounts to shoppers can encourage more sales and boost the AOV of your online store. You can also change the Heading field in the Bump Content section to better suit your discount offering and make it easier to inform your customers about ongoing deals.

Once you’re done, click on the Publish button to continue.

Step #3: Choose where the “You may also like” pop-up appears

With the “You may also like” product recommendation pop-up published, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump to choose where the order bump will appear on your WooCommerce site for customers when they add the primary product to their shopping cart.

Bump location

The Bump Location dropdown menu lets you either display the order bump on the cart page, single product pages, or the checkout page.

You can also decide what happens after your shoppers successfully add products to their cart using the “You may also like” pop-up using the After Add to Cart dropdown menu. Once you’re ready, make sure to click on the Save changes button to continue.

Step #4: Preview

Once customers add the primary product or the products specified in the Bump Applies To section, the “You may also like” product recommendation pop-up will automatically be displayed to them.

Boost your sales with WooCommerce Order Bump

Offering product recommendations on your online store encourages shoppers to spend more money on product upgrades, product add-ons, or supplementary products that go alongside their orders. It also helps promote your store’s underperforming products and improves the user experience by making it easier for your customers to find products that are relevant to them quickly, without having to search for them through your store’s entire product catalog.

While WooCommerce by default has functionality for displaying product recommendations, it doesn’t quite cut it. You have to manually add upsells and cross-sells to each product which can be time-consuming. On top of this, there’s no option to choose specific products to be displayed as recommended products on your single product pages.

To get the most out of product recommendations, you’ll need a dedicated plugin like the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

WooCommerce Order Bump lets you create a customizable modal popup that’s automatically shown to customers when they add products to their cart. This way, you have full control over which products appear in the “You may also like” section of your WooCommerce site.

#5. WooCommerce Minimum Maximum Quantity and Order for controlling order quantity

As an online store owner, you probably already know that it’s important to control order quantity on your online store. This is because there are some products that aren’t worth selling unless you’re moving multiple units at a time.

For example, there’s no point in selling a single roll of toilet paper as they are usually sold in pre-packaged 12-piece packs. Similarly, you might want to set the minimum order quantity for a product like eggs to 6 or 12 so you don’t end up receiving orders that are not possible to fulfill.

While there’s no way to set the minimum or maximum order quantity in WooCommerce, you can use a plugin like WooCommerce Minimum Maximum Quantity and Order to do this.

MonsterInsights

This plugin, which has Google Analytics integration, lets you create an eCommerce report that gives you insight into your store’s best-selling products, top conversion sources, the time it takes your customers to make a purchase, the keywords your customers use to find your products, and even the country your customers are from.

With over 12 different notification bar positions to choose from, the options for customizing the shopping experience of your online store are limitless. You can easily grab the attention of your site visitors and let them know about important announcements.

#10. AffiliateWP for affiliate management

It’s pretty obvious that if you want to sell more products, you’ll have to increase their visibility. One way to do this is to showcase them on other websites through affiliate marketing.

This not only increases the chances of other people discovering your products but also helps boost sales and revenue for your business. Even though you have to pay a commission on every sale generated, it’s well worth it and helps with the long-term growth of your brand.

Did you know that there’s a secret weapon in eCommerce that can supercharge your sales and make your checkout process a breeze? It’s called an order bump, and it’s a game-changer for increasing conversions and boosting your revenue!

Order bumps are targeted offers that tempt customers to add an extra item to their cart before they hit the buy button. Not only can they increase your average order value and earnings per click, but they can also improve your customers’ overall shopping experience.

Think about it: no one likes a clunky, confusing checkout process that takes forever to complete. By offering personalized and relevant order bumps, you can make the checkout process more efficient and enjoyable for your customers. And when customers have a positive experience, they’re more likely to come back for more and recommend your store to their friends.

If you’re running a WooCommerce site, order bumps are a must-have tool in your arsenal. With the right strategy and implementation, you can see conversion rates soar by more than 60%! So don’t wait – start implementing order bumps today and watch your eCommerce business thrive.

In this article, we’ll explore the full benefits of order bumps, and show you how you can easily implement them in your store using a plugin called WooCommerce Order Bump.

What are order bumps?

Order bumps are a sales technique used by brands that want to offer customers an additional or complementary product or service during the checkout process. These products are typically add-ons to the focal product the customer is already interested in buying from your WooCommerce site, and are often offered at a discounted price.

By using this technique, brands can not only boost their sales revenue but also improve the customer experience. Customers appreciate being offered relevant and personalized add-ons that can enhance their purchase and save them time and money.

So, what kind of products or services can you offer as order bumps? The possibilities are endless! For example, if you’re selling a camera, you could offer a memory card or a camera bag as an add-on. Or, if you’re selling a software product, you could offer an extended warranty or a training course. Here are a few other common examples:

  • A customer purchases a laptop from your online store and you charge a small fee for an extended warranty.
  • A customer buys a new phone case and sees an order bump for a tempered glass screen protector that complements the phone case.
  • A customer purchases a subscription to a project management tool and sees an order bump for a discounted upgrade to a premium plan with more features.
  • A customer purchases a book on leadership and sees an order bump for a discounted audiobook version of the same title.

The key is to offer something that is relevant and useful to your customers, without overwhelming them with too many options. By offering just one or two well-targeted order bumps, you can increase your average order value, improve customer satisfaction, and boost your bottom line.

How are order bumps different from upsells?

An order bump is an offer made to customers at some point during their shopping journey, and is usually at the checkout stage or when they’re ready to make payments and checkout from your online store. However, there are WordPress plugins that let you display order bumps at other strategic points such as the product page after a customer has added an item to the cart or in the cart page.

The point of an order bump is to entice the customer to increase their order value. While an upsell can be a type of order bump, upsells are upgraded versions of the focal product. For instance, if a customer purchases an iPhone 14, you can showcase the iPhone 14 Pro as an upsell or the higher-priced, upgraded version of the product the customer is already interested in.

While you can use order bumps to offer one-click upsells on your online store, you can also show cross-sells and related products using custom order bumps.

Benefits of order bumps

Now that we’ve established what order bumps are, it’s time to explore the exciting world of their benefits! These nifty little additions to your e-commerce store have the potential to make a huge impact on your business. Let’s take a closer look at all the ways they can help you drive more sales, keep your customers happy, and take your store’s performance to new heights.

Increased average order value

Offering additional products or services at the point of checkout can encourage customers to spend more on their orders. As a result, it can help increase the average order value on your online store. In fact, order bumps can increase the revenue generated on your WooCommerce site by 40% and are one of the best ways to encourage shoppers to spend more.

Higher conversions

By offering additional products or services at a critical point in the customer journey, order bumps can tap into the psychological principle of impulse buying and encourage customers to make a spontaneous purchase. This is because you’re offering better products or similar products to the ones customers are already interested in purchasing.

In addition to this, order bumps also show customers everything they need in one transaction. As a result, it not only creates a positive shopping experience but also increases customer satisfaction. For instance, if a customer adds a gardening tool to their cart, you can show other gardening-related products in an order bump to make their purchase more comprehensive and useful to them.

Improved store performance

Order bumps can help store owners optimize their product offers, increase product visibility, and better understand their customer’s needs and preferences. This is because order bumps are an excellent way to offer relevant product upgrades that are based on the focal product your customers are already interested in purchasing from you.

Implementing order bumps in your WooCommerce site can lead to an overall improvement in your store’s performance and makes it easier to manage inventory. As a result, it helps increase revenue for your brand and makes your marketing efforts all the more worthwhile.

How to add order bumps to a WooCommerce site

While WooCommerce, by default, doesn’t come with built-in features that let you create and showcase order bumps on your online store, you can achieve this either by using a plugin or code.

Coding is only recommended if you’re an experienced developer who can troubleshoot if required. On the other hand, many WordPress plugins make it incredibly easy to add order bumps to your WooCommerce site and maximize sales.

Order bump strategies for compelling offers

Knowing what kind of order bumps you need to offer on your online store can be difficult, especially if this is your first time setting them up. Let’s go over some of the best order bump strategies for creating compelling bump offers on your WooCommerce site.

Understand your target audience

To create effective order bumps that will appeal to your customers, it’s important to first understand your target audience. This involves gathering customer data, conducting market research, and segmenting your customer base to gain insights into their preferences, needs, and shopping behavior. By understanding your target audience, you’ll be better equipped to create order bumps that are tailored to their interests and needs.

Offer relevant products or services

When creating order bumps, it’s essential to offer relevant products or services that complement the original or focal product the customer is interested in purchasing. For example, if a customer is buying a mobile phone, you can offer them a discounted phone charger as an order bump. Similarly, if a customer purchases a t-shirt from your online store, you can offer jeans or a cap as additional accessories that complement their original purchase.

Create urgency and exclusivity

To make your order bumps more compelling, it’s important to create a sense of urgency and exclusivity. Limited-time deals or exclusive discounts can make it harder for customers to resist adding an order bump to their cart before checking out. This creates a fear of missing out on a one-time deal and encourages customers to act quickly.

Test and optimize

You also want to focus on testing and optimizing your order bumps before they are published to your online store to ensure maximum effectiveness and performance.

Store owners can use A/B testing methods as well as customer feedback to improve order bump offers and make them more compelling for their target audience. In addition to this, you can also use performance data to continually improve order bump offers and increase conversions.

Add order bumps to your store with Woocommerce Order Bump

In conclusion, implementing order bumps on your WooCommerce site is a smart way to boost conversions and increase your store’s revenue. By offering additional or complementary products during the checkout process, you can entice customers to spend more and increase their average order value. Moreover, order bumps provide a more efficient and satisfying shopping experience for customers, improving their overall satisfaction with your store.

While adding order bumps to WooCommerce can be challenging for those without coding experience, using a plugin like WooCommerce Order Bump simplifies the process and provides a range of features to customize and optimize your order bump strategy. Even developers and coders will appreciate the ease and flexibility that this plugin provides. So, whether you’re a seasoned eCommerce pro or just starting out, consider using WooCommerce Order Bump to take your online store to the next level.

Though pop-ups sometimes get a bad rep, the fact of the matter is that they work. 2019 research conducted by Sumo shows that popups have an average conversion rate of 9.28%, though this success rate can, of course, increase.

As a WooCommerce store owner, pop-ups are a strategy you should consider, and one effective type of pop-up is the add-to-cart popup. True to its name, this kind of popup exists to encourage customers to add more items to their shopping cart and increase their order value before checking out. It’s essentially a great way to display upsells, cross-sells, and similar products that shoppers can quickly add to their cart.

In this article, we’ll explore the benefits of cart popups more thoroughly and take a closer look at the top plugins for displaying cart popups. We’ll also show you the steps you need to follow to add a WooCommerce cart popup using our plugin of choice, WooCommerce Order Bump.

What is an add to cart popup?

An add to cart popup is a simple popup that’s intended to encourage customers to add more products to their cart before checking out. It typically includes recommended products such as cross-sells and upsells. Sometimes, it also comes with quantity selectors, along with add-to-cart call-to-action buttons to encourage shoppers to quickly take action.

It’s a common practice amongst eCommerce store owners to set up add to cart pop-ups that trigger as soon as a shopper adds a product to their cart. This is an effective approach since the customer has confirmed interest in making a purchase, and is likely open to considering additional or alternative products, that they may not even have been aware of.

In addition to this, there are other key points in the customer journey where an add-to-cart popup is effective, namely the cart and checkout pages of your WooCommerce site.

The cart page is a good choice since customers will most likely be evaluating their current order and can be swayed to increase it or add more products before they checkout from your online store. Similarly, showcasing the add to cart popup on the checkout page is also effective as it creates a sense of urgency right before purchasing.

Why should you use add to cart popups in your WooCommerce store?

Let’s take a closer look at some of the major reasons for using add to cart pop-ups in a WooCommerce store and see how they can benefit both the store owner and customers.

Increase product visibility

Add to cart pop-ups present an opportunity for customers to see products that they may not have noticed before when browsing through your WooCommerce site. Let’s look at why this is the case:

For starters, it can be a great way to showcase cross-sells in a better and more convincing way to shoppers. Let’s say a customer adds a laptop to their shopping cart and is ready to checkout. You can show complementary items such as a laptop case, a charger, or an external hard drive in an add to cart popup. As a result, it can help improve the shopping experience and encourage customers to spend more.

You can also use add to cart pop-ups to display upsells on your WooCommerce site. Let’s say a customer adds a pair of Doc Martens to their cart. They might not notice that your online store also has other limited edition Doc Martens available. Using an add to cart popup, you show the better, higher-priced items as upsells so customers can quickly switch out with their current item.

In addition to this, you can also use add to cart pop-ups to show related products in a better way on your online store. For example, if a customer is interested in purchasing a t-shirt, you can show them a pair of jeans or a hat product that goes well with their current purchase.

Boost conversion rates

Add to cart pop-ups can also help increase your store’s conversion rates by offering customers a convenient and quick way to add more products to their shopping cart before checking out.

Since this reduces the number of clicks required to add a product to the cart, it encourages more customers to complete their purchases when shopping from your online store.

Improved user experience

Add to cart pop-ups offer a better user experience for shoppers by eliminating the need to navigate away from the product page to add other items to their shopping cart. For instance, if a customer just added the “Suit” product to their cart, they will have the option to purchase complementary products such as formal pants or a bow tie from the same page.

This way, customers can add products to their cart without having to leave the page they were on, which saves them time and makes the shopping experience more seamless on your online store.

In addition to this, add to cart pop-ups give customers a confirmation that their original product was added to their cart. This further improves the customer experience on your online store and offers shoppers an easy way to go straight to the cart or checkout page after they’ve added products to their cart.

Increase average order value (AOV)

By displaying related products or offering bundle deals or discounts in the add to cart popup, you can encourage customers to purchase additional items or spend more than they had originally planned to. As a result, this can lead to a higher AOV and increased revenue for your online store.

Create add to cart popups for your store with WooCommerce Order Bump

Displaying add to cart popups on your WooCommerce site is the best way to increase product visibility, boost conversions, and enhance the user experience. This way, you can encourage customers to add more products directly to their shopping cart and spend more when making purchases on your online store.

Since WooCommerce by default doesn’t have any features that let you display an add to cart popup, it’s best to use a dedicated plugin like the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin. It simplifies and streamlines the shopping process, encourages your customers to add more items to their cart, and gives you the ability to display relevant product recommendations and promotional offers on your shop’s pages. As a result, it helps boost conversion rates and average order values on your online store while also reducing cart abandonment rates.

Want to increase your sales by recommending products in your WooCommerce store?

Product recommendations are a tried-and-tested method, with plenty of studies confirming how effective they are. A study from 2018 shows that customers who click on a recommended product are 70% more likely to convert into paying customers as compared to customers who don’t.

There are various kinds of recommended products including related products, product upsells, product cross-sells, and featured products, which we’ll look into more in-depth in this article.

For full flexibility when it comes to recommending products on your WooCommerce site, you will have to use plugins. In this article, we’ll tell you about two plugins, the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin and the WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin, and show you how to use them.

There are many types of recommended products in ecommerce that are commonly used by online stores.

Related products are essentially products that your customers might consider purchasing in addition to the item they’re currently viewing or are interested in.

For example, if a customer is buying a t-shirt then you may show them a cap as the related product. Similarly, if a customer is interested in purchasing a book, you can showcase a different book from the same author as the related product.

Cross-sells

Cross-sells are similar to related products but they are most commonly used to display complementary products or to extend the functionality of the product customers are viewing.

For instance, if you sell an electrical appliance such as a laptop, you can recommend a laptop charger as the cross-sell product. Similarly, you can display a belt product as a cross-sell to customers who want to buy a pair of jeans.

Cross-sell products are always complementary to the focal item customers are interested in and, usually, are lower in value. This makes it the perfect product recommendation for encouraging customers to add more products to their cart before checkout out from your online store.

Upsells

Upsells are another type of product recommendation that displays a more expensive version of the focal product your customers are viewing. This way, you can entice the customers to purchase the higher-value upsell product instead of the original product.

For example, if a customer is interested in a laptop with a Core i3 processor then you can recommend the same model laptop but with a Core i5 processor. This is a great way to increase the average order value on your online store.

While the product recommendations outlined above are usually displayed on product pages, cart pages, and checkout pages, featured products are different as they are commonly displayed on the homepage or other landing pages. This helps grab the attention of site visitors as soon as they land on your WooCommerce site and encourages them to purchase your brand’s best products.

Featured products are essentially a list or table of products that you can choose from your store catalogue to highlight on the front page of your online store. They’re often your best-selling products, new products, or (in some cases) discounted products or products that are on sale. For instance, let’s say you launch a new line of custom bike helmets and want to showcase them in the best way possible. You can display them in a featured product table on the homepage of your WooCommerce site so it’s the first thing anyone sees when they visit your online store.

While these are all different kinds of product recommendations, they have similar benefits and you can apply similar strategies to them. Let’s go over a few of the benefits of using WooCommerce product recommendations on your online store:

  • Increase AOV. You can use product recommendations to increase your online store’s average order value. This is because you’ll be encouraging shoppers to add more products or replace the products in their cart with more expensive products.
  • Easier for shoppers to quickly checkout. Product recommendations are also great for saving your customers’ time. Since shoppers don’t have to browse through the entire catalogue to find products that they’re interested in, they can quickly check out from your online store.
  • Personalised shopping experience. Recommending products on your WooCommerce site gives off the impression that the shopping experience is curated for your customers. As a result, it can help you deliver a more personalised shopping experience on your WooCommerce site.
  • Add social proof. Using headers like “Frequently Bought Together” helps add social proof to your WooCommerce site. It tells visitors that other people bought the mentioned products from your store.
  • Encourage more purchases. You can also apply discounts on recommended products to further encourage customers to make purchases when shopping from your online store.

Why you need product recommendation plugins for your WooCommerce store

While the default WooCommerce plugin lets you create simple product recommendations on your online store, it doesn’t quite cut it. This is because you get limited features for setting them up, assuming your theme’s page templates include product recommendations in the first place.

The bottom line is that it’s very basic compared to what a plugin can do. Here’s a quick breakdown of what the default WooCommerce plugin has to offer:

Related products in default WooCommerce appear on the single product pages only and under the heading “Related Products”. While this may be enough in some instances, it’s not ideal as there’s no way to change this heading.

There’s also no functionality for choosing specific products to appear on specific product pages on your WooCommerce site. They’re automatically selected by WooCommerce based on categories and tags. This means all you can do is hope that the recommended products showcased to customers are good enough.

Upsells

By default, upsells only appear on product pages as well under the heading “You May Also Like”. There’s no way to customise this heading, which can actually be a bit confusing for customers since this messaging is better suited for a related product or a cross-sell product.

Cross-sells

WooCommerce, by default, displays the cross-sells on the cart page of your online store under the heading “You may be interested in…”.

Similar to upsells, you can specify which products will be displayed as cross-sells, however, there’s no way to change the default heading text.

Displaying featured products on your WooCommerce site without a plugin depends entirely on whether your theme supports product recommendations on the front page or not.

Your WordPress theme may have some product blocks that let you display products on pages as “Featured Products”. However, it’s unlikely you will have a lot of control over setting up products the way you want to and displaying them neatly on your ecommerce site’s homepage.

When it comes to related products, upsells, and cross-sells, you ideally want to be able to define products that are recommended in all cases. On top of this, you also want to have full control over displaying them anywhere on your WooCommerce site including product pages, the cart page, and the checkout page.

Similarly, when it comes to featured products, you want to give your customers the option to filter products and let them add products directly to their cart from the landing page.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin offers features that let you display modal pop-ups anywhere on your WooCommerce site.

Key features

Using the modal popup functionality of the plugin, you can showcase related products, upsells, and cross-sells in a fully customisable pop-up. You have full control over where the pop-up is displayed on your site.

For instance, you can display related products on the checkout page of your site so customers can quickly add more products to their shopping cart before checking out. The plugin lets you display the modal popup on any of your single product pages, cart page, and checkout page of your WooCommerce.

While you have full control over which products are displayed in your modal pop-ups, you also have a wide range of styling options that let you create unique-looking pop-ups according to your brand’s aesthetic.

The best part about the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin is that it’s very easy to use, even if you’re not very tech-savvy. All you need to do is specify which products will be displayed in the modal pop-up and the plugin automatically displays it to your shoppers on the front-end.

How to set up related products, upsells, and cross-sells

Let’s take a closer look at how you can use the plugin to set up order bumps for related products, upsells, and cross-sells on your online store.

Step #1: Get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin

To get started, you will need to get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin and install it on your WooCommerce site. After installing and activating the plugin’s license key given to you at the time of purchase, you can start setting up the modal pop-up.

Step #2: Set up related products

Navigate to WooCommerce → Order Bumps and click on the Add New button.

Related products

After giving your order bump a suitable title, you can specify which product the customers have to add to their cart for the pop-up to be displayed using the Bump Applies To meta box. For instance, if a customer adds a product from the “Clothing” category, they will be shown other clothing products in a pop-up on the cart or checkout page.

Bump Content settings

Using the Bump Content meta box, you can start customising your pop-up. The Heading text field lets you display a custom message to shoppers when the modal pop-up appears on their screen. The Bump Products field lets you specify the related products you want to showcase on the pop-up. This way, it’s easier to display only the top-selling products from a specific category when users add a similar product to their cart. Once you’re ready, click on the Publish button to continue.

Step #3: Choose where to show related products

Now navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump to select where the modal popup will appear.

Show order bump settings

Using the Bump Location dropdown field, you can specify where the order bumps will be shown to customers. Ideally, you want to display the pop-ups with related products in the cart or checkout page since WooCommerce by default doesn’t let you do this. Once you’re ready, you can click on the Save Changes button to continue.

A cart upsell order bump

Customers who meet the order bump “criteria”, i.e. they add products from a specific category, will see the order bump during the checkout or cart page depending on your configuration settings.

Step #4: Create upsells and cross-sells

Let’s say you want to showcase cross-sells or upsells on the cart and checkout page using a modal popup. It’s very easy to do with the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin. Navigate to your product’s edit page and click on the Linked Products tab under the Product data meta box.

Linked products

Here, you can select the upsells or cross-sells for your product and click on the Update button to continue. While this will only display upsells and cross-sells on the single product page only, we’ll use the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to extend the display to the cart and checkout page. Create a new modal pop-up by navigating to WooCommerce → Order Bumps and clicking on the Add New button.

Upsell offer settings

After selecting your product using the Bump Applies To section, select the Use Upsell Products or the Use Cross Sell Products checkbox. Click on the Publish button to continue.

Cart upsell

Now, shoppers will see upsells and cross-sells for a product on the checkout or cart page.

To display cross-sells on single product pages instead of the cart page, all you need to do is set the Bump Location dropdown menu to Product Page using the plugin’s settings.

Product page upsell settings

This will let you display cross-sell products on single product pages of your WooCommerce site, something that’s not possible with the default WooCommerce plugin. It might look something like this:

Product page modal

The WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin offers an all-in-one solution for displaying your WooCommerce products in an easy-to-order form.

Key features

The plugin lets you showcase products in a sortable and filterable table-style layout. The product table makes it easier for your customers to add multiple products to their shopping cart without having to navigate to single product pages. As a result, it helps increase customer satisfaction and boosts sales for your business.

The great thing about WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate is that it gives you full control over which products appear on the product table. This way, you can create tables of your best-selling products, new products, or products that are on sale and showcase them anywhere on your WooCommerce site. In addition to this, the WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate plugin also lets you choose which columns appear in the product table and lets you add filtering options to make it easier for shoppers to quickly find products that they’re interested in.

While the plugin lets you override your default WooCommerce pages (such as the main shop page or category pages) with product tables, today we’re going to show you how you can use the plugin to create a simple product table with your best-selling products. We will then display the product table on the homepage so it’s easier to grab the attention of site visitors and encourage them to purchase the “best-selling” products.

How to display best-selling products

Once you install the plugin on your WooCommerce site and activate its license key, it’s time to start setting up your product table with top-selling products. To do this, navigate to your WooCommerce site’s homepage and click on the Edit page button from the top.

Homepage

This will take you to the WooCommerce page editor. Click on the “+” button and select the Product Table Ultimate block.

WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate block

This will automatically add a product table to your site’s homepage. Now using the Block settings tab, you can start configuring your product table to only showcase products from the “top-selling-products” category. To do this, select Categories using the Product Source dropdown and specify the category ID in the text field below.

Configure WooCommerce recommended products settings

You can also set up sorting and filtering options using the Layout section under the Block settings tab.

Configure sort and filter options

This helps your customers quickly find the products they’re interested in, especially if you list a lot of products in the table. Once you’re ready, click on the Update button to continue.

Show WooCommerce recommended products

Customers can now purchase top-selling products directly from the homepage of your WooCommerce site and check out quickly. This helps enhance the shopping experience on your online store and improves customer satisfaction.

Improve the way you recommend products in WooCommerce

While you can use the default functionality in WooCommerce to recommend products on your online store, it isn’t ideal for a couple of reasons. You don’t get any control over where to display upsells, cross-sells, and related products; you have no way of defining related products; and you can’t control basic things like headers and the messaging around your recommended products. Whether you can display featured products on your homepage or dedicated landing pages depends entirely on your WooCommerce theme.

The good news is that dedicated WooCommerce plugins will help solve all of these issues. With dedicated plugins like WooCommerce Product Table Ultimate and WooCommerce Order Bump, you can showcase featured products, related products, upsells, and cross-sells much more dynamically on your online store.

Do you want your product upsells to be more effective? Displaying cart upsells can have a big impact on your store’s average order value.

You probably already know that an upsell is a product that is more expensive or has a higher value than the original product that a customer is looking to purchase. WooCommerce, by default, allows you to display product upsells on single product pages. However, this is fairly limited as it’s just one opportunity for conversion.

Upsells would be much more effective if you could also display them in other areas of your WooCommerce store. For example, displaying an upsell offer in the cart is a great idea because it is a key step that occurs right before checkout.

The good news is that there is an easy solution, which is to use a WooCommerce cart upsell plugin that offers this functionality.

With this in mind, in this article, we’ll introduce you to WooCommerce Order Bump. We’ll also show you how to set up cart upsells in your ecommerce store step-by-step. Finally, we’ll give you more tips on how to use cart upsells effectively to improve your store’s average order value.

What are the benefits of cart upsells?

Generally speaking, WooCommerce upsells, cross-sells, and related products are all great strategies for increasing the average order value in your store. They help you sell complementary products and products that customers might not typically buy. In addition to this, you can also create upsell and cross-sell offers to increase product visibility and clear out old inventory faster.

Be sure to check out our full article that outlines all the reasons why upsells and cross-sells are worth implementing.

Many studies confirm that impulse buying is a growing phenomenon thanks to the rise of eCommerce. This makes the cart an excellent place to showcase upsells, as customers are likely to take last-minute decisions right before checking out. This study published in the Journal of the Association for Information Systems argues that one of the biggest determinants of impulse purchases is website quality. In other words, for your upsell strategy to really work, then you also need to put effort into your store’s design and user experience.

(By the way, if you’d like to focus on scaling your business rather than handling technical stuff like hosting, make sure to check out Kinsta’s WooCommerce plans).

Why do you need a plugin to display cart upsells in WooCommerce?

In WooCommerce, you can display upsells on single product pages but not on the cart page.

The default WooCommerce plugin is designed so upsells only appear on product pages under the You may also like… section. Similarly, cross-sells only appear in the cart under the You may also be interested in… heading.

On one hand, this is good for store owners who want a simple way of displaying product upsell offers. However, you can’t really develop a solid upselling strategy with this limited functionality. This is mainly because you don’t have any control over where the upsells appear, what layout you use to display them, what header text you use to entice customers, and which products are shown in the offer.

The easiest way to solve this is by using a WooCommerce cart upsell plugin like WooCommerce Order Bump. Next, we’ll take a closer look at the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin and highlight its key features.

What is WooCommerce Order Bump?

WooCommerce Order Bump is an order bump plugin that lets you display a modal pop-up at strategic points in your store. You can show the pop-up with order bumps on product pages as well as the cart page and checkout page.

Using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin, you can display upsells, cross-sells, and related products in your modal pop-up. It gives you full control over which products appear in each order bump. The best part is that you can create as many order bumps as you’d like.

Let’s look at some examples:

Let’s say you run an online department store with a wide array of goods. You can create really tailored order bumps:

  • Order bumps for a specific product: For example, if customers add a low-cost spanner to their cart, you can display an order bump with higher-quality spanners on the cart page. Or, you might upsell a whole toolbox that includes the spanner and other essential tools.
  • Category-specific order bumps: If you sell mirrors in your department store then you can trigger the same order bump featuring expensive mirrors any time someone adds a mirror to their cart.

Both strategies are excellent ways to improve product visibility and encourage customers to buy products they might not have thought of buying.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin also gives you control over the styling of your order bumps. You can add custom messaging in the header and choose between two layout styles. In addition to this, it lets you add quantity fields and add-to-cart buttons in the order bump.

How to create cart upsells with WooCommerce Order Bump

Here, we’ll show you step-by-step how to create a WooCommerce cart upsell modal bump using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

Step #1: Get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin

Get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin and install it on your WordPress site. Next, go to Plugins → Add New and upload the plugin’s .ZIP file.

Head over to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bump and click on the Licence link from the top. Enter the license key provided at the time of purchase and click on the Save changes button.

Step #2: Create upsell offers

There are two ways to create upsell offers using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin. You can create upsell offers for a specific product or a category-specific cart upsell order bump. Here’s how:

Create a cart upsell order bump for a specific product

Single product bump applies to

WooCommerce cart upsell for product categories

Step #4: Configure plugin settings

From the plugin’s settings screen, you can choose what happens after customers add upsells to their carts.

Plugin settings

To set this, go to WooCommerce → Settings → Order Bumps from the WordPress admin panel. Since we’re displaying upsell offers in the cart, we want to set this to Go to Checkout.

Check out our complete guide on how to use the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to create upsells, cross-sells, and related product offers.

The cart upsell offers will look something like this on the cart page. This order bump was made using the ‘Product’ layout.

Top tips to maximise your cart upsell strategy

Now that you know how to use the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to create cart upsells, let’s look into some methods you can use to develop a really effective upselling strategy.

1. Get to know your audience

Taking some time to understand the needs and preferences of your target customers is essential for creating successful upsells. Researching their buying habits, age, gender, and other demographic data can help you tailor your upsells to best meet their needs.

For example, you might sell clothes and find out through research that Gen Z shoppers are currently interested in a line of hoodies by a particular brand. If you carry that brand in your department store then you can use their products as an upsell on an unbranded (or cheaper) hoodie product.

2. Utilize cross-selling strategies

Cross-selling is another effective way to increase customer sales by offering products that are related to the items already in the customer’s cart. This strategy encourages customers to make additional purchases because the products are complementary and therefore enhance the value of their original purchase.

For example, you might cross-sell a belt to customers that add a pair of trousers to their shopping cart. Customers that purchase a pair of trousers might also want to buy a new belt to go with it.

Pro tip: Avoid adding cross-sells and upsells in the same order bump as it will be confusing in most cases.

3. Offer time-sensitive upsells

Time-sensitive upsells are a great way to increase urgency and encourage customers to purchase additional products. This can be done in the form of limited-time discounts or Buy One, Get One deals.

You can use the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to offer discounts on upsells. From the plugin’s settings screen, you can configure the discount settings. The plugin lets you offer either a fixed discount or percentage discount on upsell offers. All you have to do is select the discount type and enter the discount amount.

In addition to this, it’s also worth experimenting with headings to create a FOMO effect. For example, you could use FOMO headings like Limited Time Offer, Flash Sale, or Limited Stock to encourage people to add the upsell offer to their cart.

Display cart upsells in your cart with WooCommerce Order Bump

Displaying product upsells in the cart is a great way to increase the average order value. It gives you an opportunity to increase product visibility and encourage impulse purchases before customers reach the checkout page.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin makes it incredibly easy to create all sorts of order bump offers including cart upsells, cross-sells, and related products. In addition to this, it also has built-in options to let you offer discounts on order bumps.

Are you looking for ways to encourage more customers to complete the checkout process on your WooCommerce site? There are plenty of WooCommerce checkout plugins that can help you do this.

As an online store owner, your ultimate goal is for your customers to check out from your online store. However, if you don’t incentivize your customers to checkout or if your checkout experience is poor, then it can lead to lost sales and customer dissatisfaction.

In this article, we’re going to look at a range of checkout plugins that can help with your revenue goals. Our list includes plugins that are designed to improve the checkout page and other plugins that drive customers to complete the checkout process in different ways.

What are the benefits of using a checkout plugin?

There are many kinds of checkout plugins, so let’s look at the various purposes they serve and how they can benefit your store:

Some plugins will let you customise or improve the checkout page of your online store while others will help you drive customers to complete the checkout process. In addition to this, there are WooCommerce checkout plugins that can help you incentivise your customers to checkout with a bigger order than they would have otherwise. This improves the average order value and helps you generate more revenue for your business.

Ultimately, WooCommerce checkout plugins are designed to help you optimise the checkout process of your online store by improving the user experience. As a result, you’re able to increase conversions and meet your revenue goals.

It’s important to create an optimised checkout experience because a complicated checkout process can cause your customers to abandon their cart before making a purchase. Optimising the checkout process can reduce abandoned carts and deliver a better overall user experience.

Since WooCommerce checkout plugins will each do different things, we’ve listed a range of them below.

Depending on what functionality you’re trying to add to your WooCommerce site, you’ll find one or more plugins that can:

  • Create coupons and discounts on products to encourage more shoppers to complete the checkout when shopping from your online store.
  • Offer upsells and cross-sells during checkout that can help increase the average order value on your WooCommerce site.
  • Some checkout plugins will also let you define the minimum/maximum quantity or value that customers can purchase before they checkout.
  • Customise the fields on the checkout page of your online store to make it more tailored to your customer’s needs and the products you sell.
  • Create a one-click or one-page checkout to speed up the user flow on your WooCommerce site.
  • Let you offer final add-ons or extra options to customers directly on the checkout page. This lets them add more services to their order right before they check out.

The top 12 checkout plugins for WooCommerce in 2023

Here, we’ll go over the top 12 checkout plugins that are designed for different purposes. This way, you can choose the right WooCommerce checkout plugin for your needs.

The WooCommerce Fees and Discounts plugin is designed to help you create powerful pricing rules for your online store.

WooCommerce Fees and Discounts

Create powerful pricing incentives quickly and easily

Once you install the plugin on your site, you can create unlimited pricing rules to encourage more purchases. For example, you can set up bulk pricing for specific products that lets shoppers get a better price per unit if they buy in larger quantities. The discounted pricing encourages customers to complete the checkout process and is also a great way to increase the average order value on your online store.

BOGOF cart

Let’s say you create a Buy 10 get 1 free discount or offer a more complex pricing incentive like Buy One Get One Free (BOGOF). This encourages shoppers to add more products to their shopping cart and quickly checkout from your WooCommerce site.

The WooCommerce Fees and Discounts plugin also lets you display the product’s pricing tiers directly on the product page. This way, customers can view the discounts applied to their orders in the cart and checkout pages. This step is crucial because it means that customers will be motivated by the pricing rules from the start to the end of their shopping experience.

Cash on delivery discount checkout page

In addition to this, the robust plugin also lets you create discounts or charge fees based on the payment gateway shoppers select during the checkout process. This is a great way to incentivise customers to use specific payment methods that incur less processing fees for your business and ultimately result in higher profit margins.

#2. WooCommerce Order Bump

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin helps you optimise the way you display related products, up-sells, and cross-sells in your store. Whereas by default you can only display related products and up-sells on product pages, and cross-sells in cart pages, the plugin lets you display all kinds of recommended products on product pages, the cart page, and checkout page.

In addition to this, the plugin also lets you sell products in multiples or bulk only. For instance, you can sell “Packs of t-shirts” instead of letting customers select quantities. This way, shoppers can either purchase 1 t-shirt, 5 t-shirts, or 10 t-shirts only. This can also come in handy for selling products that come pre-packaged in bundles such as a pack of toilet paper or a case of wine bottles.

The WooCommerce Minimum Maximum Quantity and Order plugin does a great job of making the shopping experience on your online store much easier to navigate for your customers. As a result, this can reduce the time it takes shoppers to get to the checkout page when shopping from your online store.

Using the robust plugin, you can display product quantities in dropdown lists that make it easier for customers to select how many items they need quickly.

Dropdown quantities

You can also customise labels and create custom error messages to ensure your customers are fully aware of why they’re not able to order products in a specific quantity or why they’re not allowed to check out from your online store just yet. These helpful error messages make it easier for customers to quickly adjust their cart accordingly and checkout from your online store.

MIn max quantities

Customers can also adjust quantities directly from the cart page. This allows them to make their final changes without having to go back to the single product pages.

#4. Checkout Manager for WooCommerce

The Checkout Manager for WooCommerce plugin lets you customise the checkout fields on your online store.

Checkout Manager for WooCommerce

The intuitive plugin makes it easy to add custom fields to the checkout page of your online store. This allows you to gather information from customers and showcase additional options that customers can select during the checkout process. For instance, you can let customers pay extra for “Gift Wrapping” their order before sending it out.

It also lets you edit the default WooCommerce checkout fields and customise them according to your online store’s unique requirements. Checkout Manager for WooCommerce comes with conditional logic functionality that you can use to show or hide fields depending on other field values to create a more interactive experience on your online store. This also removes unnecessary clutter from the checkout page and enhances the checkout flow of your WooCommerce site.

In addition to this, you can also use the free version of the plugin if you’re not willing to pay just yet. Though it’s quite limited as compared to the premium plugin, it lets you improve the checkout experience on your WooCommerce site to some extent without paying a penny.

#5. WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons

WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons is another checkout plugin that lets you customise fields on the checkout page of your online store.

WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons

The plugin lets you create custom field types and display them anywhere on the checkout page of your WooCommerce site. For instance, you can create checkbox fields that let customers add tips to their orders or opt for gift wrapping. This is a great way to enhance the shopping experience on your online store and gives your WooCommerce site a professional look and feel.

While the plugin doesn’t support inventory management, it lets you offer conditional add-ons and set up upsell offers on the checkout page. You can even assign fixed amounts or percentage-based costs to the additional fields you add to the checkout page.

#6. Bolt Checkout for WooCommerce

Bolt Checkout for WooCommerce is a free-to-use checkout plugin that lets you create an optimised checkout experience on your online store.

Bolt Checkout for WooCommerce

Store owners can speed up and optimise the checkout experience for customers in a single click. The main benefit of the plugin is that it implements an intelligent fraud detection system on your checkout page. As a result, you can ensure customers’ payments are much more secure.

#7. WooCommerce One Page Checkout

WooCommerce One Page Checkout is the official extension from WooCommerce that lets you create a single-page checkout experience on your online store.

WooCommerce One Page Checkout

The plugin is designed to let you create a shopping and checkout experience on your WooCommerce site that lets customers checkout directly from product pages. For instance, you can create a product page that has product selection fields as well as checkout fields. This way, shoppers can make purchases from your online store quickly without having to navigate through multiple pages.

In addition to this, customers can make changes to their cart items and complete their payments from the same page which encourages more purchases and reduces cart abandonment rates on your WooCommerce site.

#8. YITH WooCommerce One Click Checkout

YITH WooCommerce One Click Checkout is another popular one-click checkout plugin that’s designed to help you transform the checkout experience on your online store.

YITH WooCommerce One Click Checkout

While the plugin’s primary function is to let customers checkout directly from the product page, it gives you more control over the customisation of the one-click checkout button. This way, you can choose design and layout settings that match your brand’s unique aesthetics.

In addition to this, the plugin also implements certain safety protocols that help create a more secure shopping experience on your online store. For instance, you can choose to hide or display the one-click checkout button for non-logged-in users or show it to users only after their first purchase. It’s the perfect solution for brands that want to create a secure one-page checkout for returning shoppers to quickly checkout with their order without having to go through multiple pages.

#9. CheckoutWC

CheckoutWC is a professional all-in-one checkout plugin for WooCommerce sites.

CheckoutWC

The plugin comes with a wide range of checkout features such as pre-designed checkout page templates, a built-in side cart or floating cart, and express checkout functionality. It even lets you display order bumps on the checkout page of your online store. This gives you all the functionality you need to create a professional and optimised checkout experience on your brand’s online store.

CheckoutWC is best suited for bigger businesses that need all of these features on their WooCommerce sites.

#10. FOX Currency Switcher

FOX Currency Switcher is a free-to-use tool that lets you display a responsive currency switcher on the front end of your WooCommerce site.

FOX Currency Switcher

This helps improve the customer experience on your eCommerce store and allows shoppers to easily view product prices in the currency that’s relevant to them. While this is a great way to let shoppers view the prices of products in different currencies in real-time, it’s also useful for letting customers select and pay in their preferred currency at the checkout stage.

#11. WooCommerce Direct Checkout

WooCommerce Direct Checkout is another checkout plugin worth mentioning due to its simplicity and ease of use.

WooCommerce Direct Checkout

The plugin lets you create a one-page checkout on your WooCommerce site without having to touch a single line of code. You can direct customers to the checkout page from product pages or let them complete the checkout process directly from the single product pages.

While it’s similar to other checkout plugins we’ve compared earlier, it can be a solid option if you’re looking to experiment with different checkout processes and see what works best for your WooCommerce site.

#12. Checkout Field Editor

Checkout Field Editor is another official WooCommerce extension that lets you customise the default WooCommerce checkout fields.

Checkout Field Editor

The plugin works well for adding or removing custom fields or editing the default ones from your checkout page. It’s a good solution for brands that only prefer to stick with official WooCommerce extensions, though there’s no real reason to do that.

In addition to this, the plugin is quite simple for what it’s priced at and this is why we’ve placed it below other similar checkout field editor plugins in our list.

Which checkout plugins should you start with?

We’ve looked at many kinds of checkout plugins, all of which are good and designed to serve different purposes. In addition to using plugins to customise the checkout experience itself, we think it’s equally important to use WooCommerce checkout plugins that create a better shopping experience overall on your online store. This way, you can encourage more customers to get to the checkout stage and complete their purchases.

You want to use checkout plugins that also allow you to customise various aspects of your online store and not just the checkout page. It gives you more bang for your buck and allows you to create a better user experience on your WooCommerce site overall.

We recommend using these three plugins for optimising the overall customer experience on your online store:

  • WooCommerce Fees and Discounts. This plugin lets you offer discounts on products to motivate shoppers to make purchases and lets you add discounts or fees to specific payment gateways to incentivise customers to use the ones that yield your business higher profit margins.
  • WooCommerce Order Bump. Using this intuitive solution, it’s possible to offer cross-sells, upsells, and related products directly on the checkout page as well as single product pages and cart pages on your online store.
  • WooCommerce Minimum Maximum Quantity and Order. This plugin is the perfect solution for brands that want their customers to choose from predefined minimum and maximum quantities and values when making purchases. This makes it easier for shoppers to quickly select their desired quantities or values, thereby speeding up the shopping process.

Want to increase sales in your WooCommerce store? You should try cross-selling and upselling! These are marketing techniques that can really help you increase your Average Order Value (AOV), and improve customer satisfaction and retention!

Cross-selling is the process of selling customers a product that’s compatible with the product they’re buying. For example, you can cross-sell a donut when customers buy a coffee. Upselling, on the other hand, is the process of selling customers a better (usually more expensive) version of the product they’re buying. For example, if customers are ordering a regular coffee you can upsell a larger size to them.

While it’s possible to set up cross-sells and upsells in WooCommerce using its default functionality, we’ll show you how using a plugin makes it possible to optimise the effectiveness of your cross-sell and upsell strategies.

In this tutorial, we’ll show you step-by-step how to set up cross-sells and upsells in WooCommerce using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

What are cross-sells and upsells?

Cross-selling is when you recommend related products to customers when they’re browsing through your online store. With cross-selling, the intention is to show customers products that they’ll purchase alongside the product they’re interested in. As an example, if someone is looking at a laptop, you might suggest they also buy a laptop case and external hard disk. Cross-sells are often displayed in Frequently Bought Together sections on product pages.

Up-selling is when you suggest a higher-value version of a product to customers while they’re browsing your store. The intention is to show customers products that they’ll purchase instead of the product they’re viewing. For example, if someone is looking at a laptop bag, you might suggest they buy a leather laptop bag instead of the nylon one they were looking at originally.

Benefits of cross-sells and upsells

While cross-selling and upselling are two distinct marketing techniques for selling products in your eCommerce store, they both have similar benefits. Here’s how adopting a cross-sell and up-sell strategy can boost your business:

  • Increase your average order value. Cross-sells and upsells both help store owners increase the customer’s average order value (AOV). This, in turn, results in an increase in your overall sales revenue.
  • Sell products that customers might not typically buy. Cross-selling can help you sell products that might otherwise not sell well on their own. For example, if you sell shoes, customers may be more inclined to buy accessories like shoe polish and socks if you display them on the product page, cart, or checkout page as well.
  • Sell complementary products. Cross-selling is great for selling complementary products together as a package instead of selling individual products separately. This makes it easier for customers who might otherwise forget about those items or not know what else they might need with their original purchase!
  • Compare products. Upselling makes it easier for customers to compare products in different price brackets. This is a great way of helping customers see the value of the more expensive product. In some cases, it can also help them decide that the product they were originally viewing is a better deal for them.
  • Increase product visibility. Both cross-selling and upselling are excellent marketing strategies for increasing product visibility. This can ultimately lead to repeat customers who either want to purchase complementary products in the future or upgrade from their original purchase.

Can I display cross-sells and upsells in WooCommerce?

WooCommerce, by default, lets you show cross-sells, upsells, and related products in your store. Here’s what you need to do to add a cross-sell or upsell offer:

Cross-sells in WooCommerce
  • Go to WooCommerceProducts. Select the product you’d like to show a cross-sell or upsell on.
  • From the Product data section, select the Linked Products tab.
  • Add the product you wish to link as a cross-sell or upsell by searching for it.
  • Click the Update button to continue.

Cross-sells will appear on the cart page underneath the cart products table along with a thumbnail image. Upsells will appear on the single product page underneath the Product Description section.

While this method works fine if you’re looking for a really basic way of showing cross-sells and upsells in WooCommerce, it’s certainly not the most effective method as it’s really limited in terms of how it displays these products to customers:

  • Upsells only appear on single product pages under the You may also like… section.
  • Cross-sells only appear on the cart page under the You may also be interested in… heading.

Ultimately, you can’t experiment with where your upsell and cross-sells appear or with headings and layouts. For this reason, you’ll need a plugin that solves these issues.

Introducing WooCommerce Order Bump

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin lets you display product cross-sells, upsells, and related products in a pop-up to help you increase the average order value. You can choose to display the pop-up on the single product page, cart page, or checkout page.

Because of the flexibility you get to showcase cross-sells and up-sells in different sections of your store, the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin is a much better alternative to the default functionality you get with the core WooCommerce plugin out of the box.

Additionally, you can customise your order bump pop-ups in many ways. This makes it easy to personalize the shopping experience in your store, or experiment with different cross-sell and up-sell tactics to see which ones work best. Here are the main ways you can customise your modal pop-up:

  • Choose between two layout options – standard product archive style or simple checkboxes.
  • Choose which products will appear in the order bump pop-up.
  • Select the products that will trigger an order bump. Choose to trigger the pop-up for all products, selected products, or products in a selected category.
  • Customise the header of the order bump.
  • Display quantity fields in the pop-up so that customers can order the cross-sells or upsells in multiples.
  • Show the Cart button and Checkout button so customers can place their orders quickly.
  • Create as many order bumps as you’d like.
  • Offer discounts on product cross-sells and upsells.

These features make it easy for store owners to create engaging cross-sell and upsell offers, and choose which specific products will trigger the order bump.

How to set up cross-sells and upsells with WooCommerce Order Bump

When it comes to selecting which products should be displayed in an order bump as cross-sells and upsells, you have two options:

  • You can specify which products to display in the order bump from the plugin’s settings. This way, you can define the same cross-sell and upsell products for multiple items rather than having to define them per item.
  • Set cross-sells and upsells for individual products by going to Product data → Linked Products.

Here, we’ll show you step-by-step how to set up cross-sells and upsells with the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

Step #1: Install the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin

Get the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin and install it on your WooCommerce site. Head over to Plugins Add New and upload the plugin’s .ZIP file to your WordPress site.

Click on the Install Now button to continue. Once it’s done installing, activate the plugin to start using it.

Next, go to WooCommerce SettingsOrder Bump and click on the Licence link from the top. Enter the license key provided at the time of purchase and click on the Save changes button to proceed.

Step #2: Create an order bump

Go to WooCommerce Order Bumps and click the Add New button to create an order bump. We’ll show you how to create cross-sells and upsells using the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin.

Next, configure the Bump Content settings. Give the order bump a heading and select the Bump Products.

Once that’s done, tick the checkbox next to the Use Cross Sell Products option. You can also select a Layout using the dropdown menu. We’ve selected Product for the cross-sell.

Top tips for effective WooCommerce cross-sell and upsell strategies

Here are some ways you can get the most out of cross-sell and upsell strategies:

Tip 1: Don’t add too many options

Though it might be tempting, you don’t want to overdo it with cross-sell or upsell options. It’s best to display 3 to 5 items at most in an order bump.

WooCommerce cross-sell

In addition to this, you don’t want to display both cross-sell and upsell offers in the same pop-up. Best practices suggest displaying either cross-sells or upsells (not both!) in an order bump. Too many options may overwhelm the customer.

Tip 2: Experiment with your headers

It’s a good idea to change the text of your order bumps and experiment with which headers work best for your customers.

Change header

For example, you can try FOMO-based headers if you’re running a sale like “This offer expires in X hours!” or “Last-minute deal!”.

Tip 3: Experiment with placement

You should also consider displaying your order bumps in different areas of the store to see which ones perform the best. The product page, cart page, and checkout page are all viable places to display cross-sell and upsell offers.

Tip 4: Experiment with the layout

Try using the two layouts included with the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to see which one gets the most engagement from your customers.

Change layout

You can try the standard product archive style or the simple checkbox style for your cross-sells and upsells.

Tip 5: Experiment with categories

If you have lots of different product categories set up in your WooCommerce store then it would be worthwhile trying out different order bumps to see which ones lend themselves to effective cross-sell and upsell campaigns.

Upgrade your cross-sells and up-sells with WooCommerce Order Bump

In this article, we’ve seen why cross-selling and up-selling are such effective eCommerce strategies. If you sell lots of complementary products in your store, or if you sell many of the same kind of products with price tags that scale up, then you should really consider making your cross-sells and up-sells more accessible to your customers.

If this is something you’re interested in, then then you’ll need a plugin as WooCommerce’s standard functionality isn’t good enough in this regard. By default, you can only show upsells on single product pages and cross-sells on the cart page.

On the other hand, the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin lets you display cross-sells, upsells, and related products in a pop-up on the single product page, cart page, and checkout page. You can experiment with different headers, layouts, placement, and product categories. It’s the perfect plugin for displaying cross-sells and upsells in WordPress.

Do you want the product upsells you show in WooCommerce to be more effective?

Product upsells are a popular eCommerce strategy to help you increase your store’s average order value by showing more expensive alternatives to products that your customers are viewing in your store.

The core WooCommerce plugin lets you create product upsells by default. It has options built-in that you can use to assign linked products to a new or existing product.

However, the default functionality is not enough for many store owners and is pretty limited in certain ways. Default product upsells offers only appear under the ‘You Might Also Like’ section on a WooCommerce product page. This means you can’t show them in more strategic areas of your store such as the cart page or the checkout page.

That’s why many people prefer using a product upsell plugin that gives them more functionality in terms of where they display recommended upsells, and the products they choose to upsell. There are many product upsell plugins available for WooCommerce store owners in 2023, so we’re going to cover the top 7.

Benefits of upselling

Creating product upsell offers can help your business grow by increasing the average order value, revenue, and profits. Let’s take a closer look at the benefits of upselling:

Increase the average order value in your store

This is the main benefit of product upsells since the intention is for customers to purchase more expensive (and usually higher quality) products instead of the ones they might be interested in. For example, if a customer is looking at a pair of hiking boots, you could recommend a more durable pair as an alternative.

Increases product visibility

Even if customers don’t always opt for the upsell offer, showing them upsells is an excellent way to showcase the rest of your product catalogue. This lets you increase product visibility in your store.

As a result, you’re likely to get a few repeat customers who will eventually want to purchase more products or upgrade from their original purchase to the higher-priced alternative.

Increases customer satisfaction

By showing the customer upsells, you’re essentially presenting them with more options. This gives them the opportunity to compare your range of products and make a more informed purchase decision.

The end result is that customers will be more satisfied with their purchases.

The top 7 WooCommerce upsell plugins for 2023

We’ve chosen WooCommerce upsell plugins that are intuitive to use and give you plenty of options in terms of how you personalise and display product upsell offers.

#1: WooCommerce Order Bump

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin lets you display product upsells, cross-sells, and related products in a modal pop-up. You can set up the plugin to display the pop-up on the WooCommerce product page, cart page, or checkout page. This gives you an opportunity to show customers more products from your catalogue and increase your customer’s average order value.

The best part is that the pop-up is extremely customisable! Here are the core ways you can modify it:

  • Choose between two layout options – standard product archive style or simple checkboxes.
  • You get full control over which products will appear in an order bump.
  • You get full control over which products will trigger an order bump. Choose between all products, certain products, certain attributes, or products in a certain category.
  • Customise the header of your order bump pop-up.
  • Display quantity fields so customers can order in multiples.
  • Show the add to cart button and checkout button.

You can use the WooCommerce Order Bump plugin to create as many order bumps as you’d like and set them up however you want. It’s perfect for creating complete-the-look product pages and showing frequently-bought-together products.

In addition to this, you can offer discounts on the product upsells you display in the modal pop-up. This is a great way to encourage customers to opt for the upsell offer instead of the product they’re already viewing. You can choose to offer either a fixed discount or a percentage discount on the items that appear in the pop-up modal.

How to create WooCommerce upsell offers

Once you have the plugin installed and activated on your WordPress site, head over to WooCommerce > Order Bumps to create an upsell offer.

Click the Add New button and give the new upsell a suitable title. Once that’s done, configure the Bump Applies To settings. As mentioned earlier, you can choose between all products, certain products, certain attributes, or products in a certain category. The plugin also lets you exclude products and only show offers to certain user roles.

Next, configure the Bump Content settings. Here, you can enter Header text, select the product upsells, choose a layout, and configure extra display options.

Lastly, configure the Discount settings by defining discounts for product upsells that appear in the modal pop-up. You can choose to create either a fixed discount or a percentage discount, and set the value.

#2: One Click Upsell Funnel for WooCommerce Pro

One Click Upsell Funnel for WooCommerce Pro

One Click Upsell Funnel for WooCommerce Pro lets you create as many post-purchase upsell and cross-sell offers as you’d like. You can also set them up as exclusive, one-time offers using page builders. The plugin also lets you specify the products or product categories you’d like to trigger the upsell products for.

The only downside here is that it creates post-purchase offers. In simple words, it only shows the upsell offers to customers after they’ve bought something from your store. So, if you want to optimize the way you display upsells before the customer has made a purchase, you’ll need another plugin. After all, customers are more likely to increase their cart total before they’ve checked out than make another purchase right after they’ve checked out.

#3: Cart Upsell for WooCommerce

Cart Upsell for WooCommerce

The Cart Upsell for WooCommerce plugin is a good option if you want to display product upsells on the cart page. It lets you set various conditions for when and how product upsell offers appear. For example, you can set conditions to recommend a hoodie as an upsell if the customer has clothing items added to their cart and if their current order is over $20.

While the Cart Upsell for WooCommerce plugin is great for creating cart upsells, it’s not ideal if you also want to display upsells on other areas of your WooCommerce site, such as the product page.

#4: WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons

WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons

The WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons plugin lets you optimise the checkout page by offering upsells, free shipping, add-on services, or complementary products. You can charge fixed amounts or percentage-based costs and create conditional add-ons.

As with the Cart Upsell for WooCommerce plugin, WooCommerce Checkout Add-Ons gives you lots of options to create conditions around product upsells. However, it also has a similar limitation which is that the upsell offers you create will be specific to the WooCommerce checkout page.

#5: Cartflows

Cartflows

Cartflows is a WordPress funnel builder plugin that includes features such as dynamic one-click upsells, one-click order bumps, A/B split testing, checkout form layouts, and lots more. The plugin also comes with upsell templates which make it easy to create your offer. In addition to this, the plugin lets you optimise the layout WooCommerce checkout page.

The main downside with Cartflows is that its Starter plan doesn’t include functionality for creating upsells and order bumps. To create upsell offers, you’ll need to get the Cartflows Plus plan.

#6: Smart Offers for WooCommerce

Smart Offers for WooCommerce

Smart Offers for WooCommerce is an extremely feature-rich plugin. It lets you create product cart and checkout upsells. You can personalise the WooCommerce product upsells in a variety of ways based on the customer’s order value, preferred product categories, and more.

However, there are many, many more features on offer such as cross-sells, BOGO, order bumps, dynamic pricing, direct checkout, product bundles, free shipping, giveaways, and discount offers in the sales funnel. So, you need to be sure you want to implement all (or most) of these offers in your online store before buying the plugin otherwise the Smart Offers for WooCommerce plugin might not be worth it for you.

#7: YITH WooCommerce Frequently Bought Together

YITH WooCommerce Frequently Bought Together

YITH WooCommerce Frequently Bought Together lets you suggest items that are usually bought together with the product customers are currently looking at. For example, if a customer is looking at a pair of swimming goggles you might want to show them a kickboard, pool noodles, and floaties.

The YITH WooCommerce Frequently Bought Together plugin is probably a better fit for people who want to focus on cross-selling campaigns rather than upsells. However, it’s possible to use the plugin for upsells too if you need to.

Make your product upsells more enticing with WooCommerce Order Bump

As an online store owner, you can create product upsells to increase the average order value, product visibility, and customer satisfaction. The best way to do this in WooCommerce is by using a product upsells plugin.

The WooCommerce Order Bump plugin is our top pick for creating product upsells. It gives you full control over which products appear in the upsell pop-up and which products to show upsells for. In addition to this, you can customise the pop-up modal however you’d like.
