Are you selling specific products on your website, and do you want to offer your customers the option to request a quote before they purchase?

WooCommerce is a great eCommerce platform that comes with a lot of features out of the box. However, it doesn’t have built-in functionality that lets customers request a quote before they purchase products from your online store.

In this article, we’ll show you how to set up a “request a quote” button in WooCommerce.

Why enable customers to request a quote in WooCommerce

Enabling customers to request a quote on your WooCommerce store gives you the opportunity to sell more products and services that you otherwise would not be able to.

Customers that were previously hesitant to purchase products from you will now be able to request a quote to see if it fits their budget.

It helps your customers make purchases that they otherwise might not have considered. As a result, you’re able to optimise sales and generate more revenue.

Let’s go over some of the main benefits of adding a “request a quote” button on your online store:

  • Boost sales. Letting customers request a quote before they make purchases helps increase sales on your online store. This is because you can reach out to more customers who might have not bought from your online store. It lets you cater to customers who are looking for pricing information and help them take the next step of purchasing the product or service.
  • Sell more products. By adding a request a quote button on your online store, you’re essentially giving customers the option to request products that might not be a part of your core business. This way, you can sell other products that complement your core products well. As a result, it helps you sell more products on your online store and is a great way to scale your business.
  • Improve market authority. Letting customers request a quote on your online store also gives you the option to sell customised products and services. For example, if you sell apparel products on your online store, you can let customers design their own t-shirts. This not only helps you sell more products and generate more revenue but is also a great way to improve market authority by establishing yourself as an expert in your field.
  • Offer bulk orders. Adding a request a quote button also lets you sell products on your online store that might not be suitable for direct purchase. For instance, you can let customers request bulk orders or purchase products in larger quantities by using the “request a quote” button on product pages. This not only helps you cater to a wider range of customers but also is a great way to offer a more unique shopping experience on your online store.
  • Let customers request personalisations. A “request a quote” button lets your customers request personalisations for existing products on your WooCommerce site. For example, if you sell jewelry products, you can let customers request custom name engraving for rings or necklaces.

How to create a “request a quote” button in WooCommerce

Since WooCommerce doesn’t offer the ability to add a “request a quote” button on your online store, your best option is to use a plugin. This is because it’s the most effective way to add a “request a quote” button on your online store without having to worry about back-end coding or troubleshooting errors and bugs.

Let’s take a look at the top three plugins that let you create a “request a quote” button in WooCommerce:

#1. Plugin Republic’s WooCommerce Request A Quote

The WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin is an all-in-one solution for adding a “request a quote” button to your online store.

It’s the ideal plugin to create a “request a quote” button as it’s very straightforward to set up and use on your online store, even if you’re not very tech-savvy. The WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin lets you add products to a quote list using an Add to Quote button. You can define which products can be “quoted” by customers on the front-end by specifying single products or by product category or tag.

For instance, you can use it to let customers only request a quote for products that are in the “Wholesale purchasing” category. This way, you can continue other products as you normally would while letting customers request quotes for wholesale items.

The WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin also lets you specify which users on your WooCommerce site can request quotes. You can choose whether to let guests, existing users, or specific user roles on your online store request quotes for products. For example, you can only let “VIP members” request quotes to personalise their orders. This helps you offer a more exclusive shopping experience on your online store and encourages regular customers to become members.

In addition to this, you can also choose to hide prices for quoted products and let your customers decide on a price. This helps you cater to more people on your online store including prospective customers who are interested in your products but don’t have the budget to purchase them.

The best part about the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin is that once the customer requests a quote and you approve it, it automatically converts quotes to orders and sends a payment link to the customer. It’s a great way to sell quoted products on your online store without having to manually do all the work to create orders from quotes and send payment links to customers yourself.

Pricing – You can get the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin for $59 per year for the Basic plan.

Using the intuitive plugin, you can create a beautiful product page and let customers request a quote for either specific products, all products within a specific category, or all products on your online store.

Another great thing about the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin is that it’s highly recommended by customers and has great customer feedback. Let’s take a look at what customers say about the plugin:

“5/5 stars!!! Really a great plugin and outstanding customer service! Well built and very logical setup. Easy to use for even not so tech-savvy users :-)”

– Anders Jytzler from Hype Media

Gareth has been exceptionally helpful with after sales enquiries. Very responsive and excellent customer care. Fully recommend this plugin to anyone that is looking to extend the functionality of WooCommerce.”

– Danny Harvey from Danny Harvey Media

#2. YITH WooCommerce Request a Quote

YITH WooCommerce Request a Quote is a professional WooCommerce plugin designed to let you hide the price or the add to cart button on your online store so that your customers can request a custom quote for your products.

The YITH WooCommerce Request a Quote plugin offers a great way to sell products and services without a set price to your customers. This helps increase the average order value and lets your customers pay based on what they can afford. Using the robust plugin, you can also hide the price or the add to cart button for all products on your online store. This not only encourages more customers to reach out to you but also hides your prices from competitors and helps you create a more competitive pricing strategy for your business.

In addition to this, the YITH Request a Quote plugin lets you manage the entire quote process from a central place. You can view quote offers and accept them using the WordPress admin panel. Once customers accept the quote, they are automatically redirected to the checkout page of your online store and the plugin creates a new order from the quote.

Pricing – The YITH WooCommerce Request a Quote plugin’s pricing starts at $69.99 per year.

While the plugin is a great option if you’re looking for a professional plugin with a lot of features, it still lacks in a few ways. For starters, the plugin is not very user-friendly to first set up. This can be a challenge, especially if you’re a non-coder. Additionally, the plugin is very chunky as it comes with a lot of features.

#3. NP Quote Request WooCommerce

NP Quote Request is a simple, yet powerful plugin for WooCommerce that lets shoppers on your online store submit a quote request.

It offers an easy-to-use interface that lets you set up a “request a quote” button on specific products on your online store. It also offers some price visibility options and sends shop managers and customers email notifications during the quote process.

The NP Quote Request offers a unique way of showcasing quoted products on your WooCommerce site. You can essentially let customers “convert” their shopping cart into a quote request or let them select specific products as quoted products. This way, shoppers on your online store can only request quotes for specific products while checking out and paying for other products in their cart as they normally would. This offers a seamless “request a quote” experience on your online store and helps deliver a more professional brand image.

Pricing – You can download and use the NP Quote Request plugin for free on your WooCommerce site.

While the plugin is free to use and offers a wide range of features out of the box, it does have some reviews criticising its customer service. It’s rated 4.7 / 5.

Setting up a “request a quote” button in WooCommerce

Here, we’ll show you how easy it is to set up the “request a quote” button in WooCommerce using the right plugin.

For this tutorial, you’ll need a WordPress site with the WooCommerce plugin installed as well as a few products added to your site that you’d like to enable the request a quote option for.

You’ll also need the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin for setting up a “request a quote” button on your online store the right way.

Step #1: Get the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin

Start off by getting the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin and installing it on your WooCommerce site.

Once that’s done, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Request a Quote and click on the licence tab to activate the plugin.

Enter your licence key and click on the Save changes button to continue.

Step #2: Create the request a quote button

With the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin installed and activated on your WooCommerce site, you can start setting up the request a quote button. To do this, navigate to WooCommerce → Settings → Request a Quote and click on the General link.

Request a Quote WooCommerce general settings

Using the Enable Quotes on dropdown menu, select which products to display the “request a quote” button for. If you select the Specific Products option, it lets you individually disable or enable the “request a quote” button for specific products on your online store.

Enable request a quote

Simply navigate to the product’s edit page and select the Enable Request a Quote checkbox using the Product data meta box under the General tab. Make sure to click on the Update button to save changes on the front-end of your online store.

Step #3: Personalise according to your brand

The WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin also lets you personalise and set up the “request a quote” button according to your business’s requirements. Head back to the plugin’s settings by navigating to WooCommerce → Settings → Request a Quote.

Specific products

Using the Enable Quotes for dropdown menu, you can specify which users can view quoted products and request quotes on your online store. You also need to define the Request a Quote page which is automatically created once you install the plugin on your WooCommerce site. You just need to specify the page that has the [pr_raq_form] shortcode.

In addition to this, you can also hide the price for quoted products on your online store and select whether to automatically create accounts for new users when they submit a quote using the checkboxes below. Once you’re ready make sure to click on the Save changes button to continue.

Step #4: Preview

Now with everything set up properly and in place, customers will see the “Add to Quote“ button on specified products instead of the standard “Add to Cart” button.

Add to Quote button

Customers can select product quantities and request a quote for the product. You can later approve the quote and automatically send customers the payment link and create the order on the back-end of your online store.

Conclusion

Setting up a “request a quote” button on your online store is important for selling more products and encouraging customers to connect with your brand. Other than improving conversions on your online store, it essentially helps you increase the size of your potential target market and offers a great way to scale your business.

Other than offering a very simple and easy way to let customers request quotes for products, the WooCommerce Request A Quote plugin also offers a wide range of benefits to your brand. You can choose whether all users, only logged-in users, only guest users, or specific user roles like wholesale customers or admins can submit quotes on your online store. This way, you prevent unauthorised access to exclusive quoted products and reduce support ticket requests on your WooCommerce site.

The plugin also lets you choose whether or not to display prices on quoted items available on your online store. This encourages customers to make a purchase who might not have been willing to spend money on an item but will buy it if its price is lower than what they expected. In addition to this, when a user submits their quote list to you, you will receive a quote email containing all the items or quoted products. This automatically creates a “Quote request” on the back-end of your online store. This way, you can edit prices as required and send the user an email back with the products and their quoted prices. You can do all of this directly from the WordPress dashboard, an interface most users are already familiar with.

The best part about the WooCommerce Request A Quote is that it’s fully compatible with the WooCommerce Product Add-Ons Ultimate plugin and with other plugins sold within the Wholesale Bundle.

Why do you need a Request a Quote plugin?

Here are some of the main reasons that you might want to allow your customers to request quotes:

  • If you’re selling wholesale, B2B, or just in bulk, you might want to give special price discounts based on volume
  • You might want to keep your prices hidden from your competitors
  • You’re selling personalised products which require you to calculate pricing. The WooCommerce Request a Quote plugin is fully integrated with Product Add-Ons Ultimate, making it the ideal way to accept quotes for customised products.

Key features of the Request a Quote plugin

The WooCommerce Request a Quote plugin allows you to:

  • Allow users to select products to add to their quote request list
  • Define which products can be quoted: choose from all products, specific products, or all products within specific categories or tags
  • Choose which users can request a quote: you can specify all users, only logged-in users, only logged-out users, or users with specific user roles
  • Optionally hide prices from product pages
  • Automatically send a checkout link to customers with their quote
  • Convert quotes to orders automatically when users check out

Easy to set up

The plugin has a simple settings page that allows you to configure all its settings. Once you’ve installed and activated the plugin, go to WooCommerce > Settings > Request a Quote.

There, you’ll see each of the available settings. We can take a quick look at each of these:

  • Enable Quotes on: use this setting to define which products have an ‘Add to Quote’ button
  • Enable Quotes for: this setting defines which users will be able to request a quote
  • Request a Quote Page: choose which page will display the user’s quote list. This is automatically created when you activate the plugin
  • Hide prices on quotable items: choose whether to display quotable products without a price
  • Create accounts for new users: automatically enable new account creation for users when they submit a quote request

What happens when the user submits a quote request?

When a customer submits a quote request, you’ll get an email similar to the email you receive for a new order. A new ‘Quote request’ item will also be created in your Orders screen.

You can edit the quote request to enter or edit the product prices, then use the ‘Send updated quote to customer’ action to update the quote. This will automatically send an email to the customer with their chosen products and your prices. The quote status will change to ‘Quote sent’.

If the customer chooses to accept the quote, they can go directly to the checkout and pay for their order. It’s not possible for them to add or remove any items.

The order status is converted to ‘Processing’ and you can proceed as with any normal order.

Integrations

WooCommerce Request a Quote is a standalone plugin that works perfectly by itself. However, it integrates with all our plugins, giving you scope for extra functionality.

For example, you can use the plugin with Product Table Ultimate, setting your products out in a table format and allowing users to add multiple products to their quote list from a single page.

WooCommerce Request a Quote and Product Table Ultimate

You can also use the plugin with Product Add-Ons Ultimate, allowing you to accept quotes on personalised products containing extra add-on fields. Or you can integrate with Members Only, allowing you to display different products to different users as part of a membership or members only site.
